Shut the Door

I have to begin here. In 2 Kings 4:33 (NLT): “He went in alone and shut the door behind him and prayed to the LORD.”

The beginning is to know what it means to shut the door. In this particular verse, translated from the Hebrew word sâgar, shut means to surrender.

(Check out the entire chapter to see the miracles that took place behind the shut doors.)

"But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you." (Matthew 6:6 NLT)

The King James Version says to enter into your closet. The word closet from the Greek translates to a secret room.

The message I have for you today is simple. Do you have a secret place you can hide away in and surrender yourself to God? A place to pray? A place to fight the spiritual battles that are waging war around you?

Don’t have that place yet? Maybe the time has come to find it!

Miracles happen behind the shut door. Battles are won behind the shut door. Come close to God behind the shut door.

It is time to shut the door behind you.

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8] Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. [9] Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. [10] Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. (James 4:7-10 NLT)
