The Sufficiency of His Presence

The Sufficiency

Sufficiency is a condition of adequacy and enough. I am not sufficient on my own. I am hardly adequate or enough.

On my own I am empty. On my own I am weak.

When I relied on myself, things either fell apart – or I hurt myself – or I hurt the people around me (or all of the above).

As much as I want to “control” my life — I have no control, really. Nothing substantial. Nothing that really matters.

I am limited.

When you come to the end of your own resources. When you finally realize that you cannot make it on your own. Then you can finally hear that still small voice whispering to you, “Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10a, NLT) It isn’t about “being still” in the sense of ‘not moving.’ It is about “letting go of yourself and everything else. It is about knowing that He is all sufficient.

He is the All-Sufficient One! The only One that can satisfy the emptiness inside. The only One that can satisfy that which is impossible [to satisfy within me].

He is limitless!

LORD, remind me of the sufficiency of Your Presence in my life! Your Grace is all I need. Your Grace is sufficient. Your Power [that is at work in me] works best through my weakness. Remind me of Your Character. I will trust in You! I will boast in Your Name, and I will boast in my weaknesses – so that Your Power can work through me (Reference 2 Corinthians 12:9).

  1. What an important reminder. So many of our struggles are rooted in our drive to be sufficient and adequate in our own power and ability. I’m learning to choose to believe my sufficiency is Christ in me and it is very freeing–(when I’m faithful to rest in that truth). Linking with you today at Holly’s.
